Reports are stating that rap icon Darryl McDaniels of pioneering hip-hop group Run-DMC was involved in a car crash on Interstate 105 in Los Angeles.

Footage was captured of the chaotic scene earlier today on the Citizen Los Angeles app via witnesses.

Jam Master Jay Killers Have Finally Been Convicted After 22 Years

TMZ was told by California Highway Patrol that an emergency call was received around 11:43 AM for a two-vehicle crash that involved an SUV and garbage truck. It’s believed that DMC was a passenger and not one of the people driving, and footage appears to show that he nor anyone else was injured in the collision.

More details below via TMZ:

“In another section of the user’s video … the right side of the SUV can be seen completely totaled.

According to the Citizen App … Darryl spoke with members of the LAFD who arrived on the scene.

At one point … the rapper smiled at the person recording the footage. Sources tell us that he and everyone else in the vehicle are completely fine.

The safety app also reported that the incident was resolved … and that the SUV in question was towed.”

We’re just happy that things didn’t turn out for the worse, especially given the irony of today’s date. October 30 marks the 24th anniversary since the tragic murder of Run-DMC’s resident mixmaster, Jam Master Jay.

Over two decades went by with his shooting death going unsolved, until 2024 saw a jury convict Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington for committing and orchestrating the infamous crime. A judge one year later overturned Jordan’s conviction in a legal battle that’s still playing out in the judicial system. A third man, Jay Bryant, surprised everyone when he plead guilty back in April for finally admitting to letting the killers into JMJ’s studio on that fateful night nearly two-and-a-half decades ago.

Our prayers are with the entire Run-DMC community today.
