Towson University is expanding its affordability efforts with a new Mid-Atlantic tuition rate designed for undergraduate students living in states and districts near Maryland.
The new tuition option is part of TU’s effort to increase access to higher education while attracting students from across the Mid-Atlantic region. University officials say the program will also help create a more diverse campus community while providing families with a more affordable alternative to traditional out-of-state tuition.
Undergraduate students who reside in Delaware, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia will be eligible for the Mid-Atlantic tuition rate.
Based on fall 2026 rates, estimated Mid-Atlantic tuition and fees total approximately $20,680 per year. That represents an average annual value of about $12,000 compared with TU’s standard out-of-state tuition and fees of approximately $32,948.
Students who live outside the eligible Mid-Atlantic states will continue to pay the regular out-of-state tuition rate.
Current Towson University students who qualify for the program will be contacted individually about their eligibility. The university will also provide information about any potential changes to existing financial aid or scholarship packages.
Prospective students interested in receiving the Mid-Atlantic tuition rate are encouraged to apply by the Fall 2027 Early Action deadline. Additional information about eligibility requirements and residency verification will be provided during the admissions process.
Towson University noted that Fall 2027 tuition rates are expected to be approved and announced in Spring 2027 and remain subject to approval by the university and the University System of Maryland Board of Regents.
