Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2 a.m. local time, when clocks fall back one hour. It began this year on Sunday, March 8. In the United States, daylight saving time always starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November.
Falling back gives you an extra hour of sleep and brighter mornings, but sunrise and sunset both arrive an hour earlier. In Indianapolis, sunset jumps from after 6:15 p.m. to before 5:30 p.m. almost overnight, so the evening commute gets noticeably darker.
Arizona (except the Navajo Nation), Hawaii, and U.S. territories like Puerto Rico and Guam stay on standard time year-round. Phones, laptops, and most smart TVs update on their own, but wall clocks, ovens, and car dashboards need a manual reset. Changing them before bed Saturday night is the easiest habit.
The shift can throw off sleep for a few days, and darker evenings raise the risk for drivers and pedestrians, so allow extra time and caution on the road. It’s also a good moment to test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and swap batteries.
Will the clocks ever stop changing? Congress has moved toward making daylight saving time permanent through the Sunshine Protection Act, but it still needs Senate approval and a presidential signature. For now, the change still applies.
