As we’ve come to understand year after year, day after day even, death is unfortunately an inevitable part of life. Still, as much of a fact as that may be, the blow of experiencing loss never gets any easier, nor does reporting on the subject in Black culture.

Robbie Pardlo, a former member of the R&B and hip-hop group City High, has passed away at the age of 46. The singer, known for his soulful voice and heartfelt performances,

Pardlo rose to fame in the early 2000s as part of City High, alongside Claudette Ortiz and Ryan Toby. The group gained widespread acclaim for their socially conscious hit “What Would You Do?” which earned a Grammy nomination and became a cultural anthem. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2001, also featured hits like “Caramel” and “City High Anthem.”

Before his time with City High, Pardlo’s voice was featured on Whitney Houston’s 1999 hit “My Love Is Your Love,” showcasing his immense talent. Despite his musical success, Pardlo faced personal struggles, including a battle with alcoholism, which he openly addressed during an emotional appearance on A&E’s “Intervention” in 2010.

No cause of death has been reported at this time.
